Grossman Should Move On In 2008

Grossman

Rex Grossman is already playing the card of wanting to come back to the Bears in 2008, something the team had better think long and hard about before letting it happen. Grossman gave the “woe is me” act on Tuesday when asked about if he’d like to return despite not having a contract for next season. “I’d like to be back here if I’m wanted back here,” Grossman said Tuesday. “We’ll see what goes on.”

He has been injury prone (like now with the sprained knee that will keep him out the last three games). He played like an MVP to start last season, throwing TD’s and making the Bears look like this year’s Pats, but then, out of nowhere, he faltered, and while the Bears made the Super Bowl, Grossman had an awful game, costing the team a shot to have another Lombardi Trophy.

So now he’s got options, and why he’d like to come back to Chicago next season is beyond me. The fans and media in the Windy City have given him enough grief to last a lifetime, and if he’s smart he’ll look around the league and take a deal to play elsewhere, even as a backup to start, in order to prove himself again. Sure he wants to be a starter, but does anyone actually want to put the position in those uncertain hands?

Grossman completed 122 of 225 passes for 1,411 yards with four TD passes and seven interceptions in eight games this season, seven od which came as a starter. In his career he’s passed for 5,907 yards with 33 interceptions and 31 TD passes in 32 games, 30 as a starter. Time to move on Rex – leave Chicago behind and look for a fresh start elsewhere.
