Bears Playoff Hopes End With Loss To Minnesota

Orton Throws

Any chance the Bears still had to make the NFL playoffs ended last night at the Metrodome.  The Bears held a 13-6 lead on the Vikings at halftime, but did not score again and lost to Minnesota 20-13.  The loss drops Chicago to 5-and-9, and guarantees the team’s first losing season since 2004.  Quarterback Kyle Orton struggled in his first regular-season action in two years, throwing for just 184 yards and no touchdowns.  The entire Bears offense had problems, as the team picked up just 32 yards on the ground.  Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson, who ran for more than 200 yards against Chicago earlier this year, gained only 78 yards rushing but scored two touchdowns.  The Vikings improve to 8-and-6 and stay in the hunt for a playoff berth.  Their win also knocks Arizona, Detroit and Philadelphia from postseason contention.
