Will the Bears Place the Franchise Tag on Berrian?

Berrian

It looks as if the Bears have yet to decide if they are going to throw the franchise tag on free-agent to be Bernard Berrian.  The WR’s agent Drew Rosenhaus said that no decision has been made between the Bears and Berrian in terms of the franchise tag being placed on him.  Rosenhaus said Friday he has “not heard anything either way.’’  If Berrian does not get the franchise tag on him, or does not come to terms with the Bears by February 29th, he will be free to go to the highest bidder or whatever team he likes.

NFL Network’s Adam Schefter stated that the Bears are  not likely to use the franchise tag on Berrian. Last season the Bears used the franchise tag on Lance Briggs, and that paid him a handsome $7.2 million for the season.  The price for putting the tag on Berrian – $7.8 million.  Berrain has already said he wants to stay with the Bears, but money talks, and if Berrian hits the open market, there will be teams out there looking to get his services.

One team that has reportedly been looking hard at Berrian are the Raiders, who are in need of a wide out badly.  Berrian is a local somewhat, as he grew up about two hours southeast of Oakland.  In 16 games in 2007, Berrian pulled in 71 catches for 951 yards and five TD’s.  The catches and yards were both career-highs.  He has a career 150 catches in his four years with the Bears.

Sure wish Angelo would pay the cash to get Chad Johnson.Getting a tall premier receiver would certainly lure really good QB prospects. Keep Berrian and sign Johnson!
