Angelo Says the Bears Want Grossman Back in 2008

With the Bears QB situation in a total flux, GM Jerry Angelo spoke out Monday, andGrossman stated that he feels that Rex Grossman will be back with the team in 2008. “We would definitely like to have Rex back. We’ve talked internally, and at some point we will visit with him and see if we can create a situation that’s workable for all of us. We’ve invested a lot in Rex, and we see him competing for the starting position. Given the familiarity that he has with our system and us with him, there’s no downside. He’s been a good soldier for us in terms of whatever role we’ve asked him to play, particularly this past season. We feel that having him in the mix makes us a better football team.” Grossman played in 8 games last season, throwing for 1411 yards with 4 TD’s and 7 picks. He had a QB rating of 66.4. The Bears may not have much of an option at the QB spot, as Brian Griese or Kyle Orton are currently the only other two QB’s on the roster. It will be interesting to see if Angelo is simply trying to play his cards and may eventually go out and look for a QB on the market, leaving Grossman in the dust.
