Bears wide out Bernard Berrian is on the verge of being a free agent tomorrow, but that is not stopping the Bears from trying to keep the receiver. Today’s Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that the Bears are not going to lose Berrian without a fight, as they have offered him a reported five-year deal worth $25 million. The wide out would also get $8 million in bonuses. Despite the offer, Berrian, who is slated to be the 2nd best wide out on the open market, wants more.

The Times reports that Berrian is looking for a deal that will top that of Seahawks wide out Deion Branch, who signed for 6 years at $39 million last fall. Berrian is also looking at a deal that will pay him more than $12 mil up front. Berrian’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is known for holding out for the last dime, and he knows that there are a number of teams – the Vikings, 49’ers, Jets, Browns and Raiders who will make a push for Berrian.

Look for the Bears to lose Berrian once the signing period starts, and for the team to sit back and look at what other wide outs are out there that can come a bit cheaper, and also what teams do in terms of releasing talent at the wide out spot. The team will have options at the position, but losing Berrian in the end is going to be a big blow.
