A former Bears fullback has been charged with mail fraud. The “Chicago Tribune” reports that 55-year-old Roland Harper is accused in connection with a scheme to defraud Chicago Public Schools of landscaping contracts worth more than 1.5-million dollars. Harper’s trucking company, Rohar Construction, was allegedly used as a front to obtain CPS contracts reserved for minority firms. Court documents indicate that Monahan Landscaping Company of Arlington Heights actually performed most of the work between 2003 and 2006. Harper played for the Bears from 1975 until 1982, forming a one-two punch in the backfield with Walter Payton. Harper rushed for more than 3,000 yards and 15 touchdowns in his career. In 1978, he ran for a career-high 992 yards.
