Despite Wanting More Money, Urlacher Shows Up at OTA’s

Bears LB Brian Urlacher wants to win now, and it appears that for the time being he is putting his money demands on hold as he has showed up at Bears OTA’s.  The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that it’s not known if Urlacher is just going to let the contract situation play out, or if he’s eventually going to go back to demanding more money or not report to training camp.  Urlacher wants his contract restructured, and had been skipping OTA’s until this recent show up.  He said Tuesday that  he is not close to signing a deal, although both sides are talking, and making progress on getting a deal done.

The Bears have offered a one-year extension worth $5 million up front, with $1 million tacked on a reduced-base salary per year through 2011 if he participates in 85 percent of the defensive snaps. Urlacher would make $7.5 million in the final year, 2012, although the Bears are likely to restructure that if he remains active that season. Urlacher signed a nine-year, $57 million deal in 2003 that included up to $19 million in bonuses.
