Day 2 News & Notes: 1st round draft pick and future left tackle of the Chicago Bears Chris Williams left the field Thursday afternoon with what is being reported as back spasms (stiffness). Later in the day Williams commented on the injury:

“It’s good, it’s getting better, I spent a lot of time with the trainers, which I really don’t like to do. But it’s getting a lot better. … This is pretty uncommon.”

It was also said that he wanted to continue to practice, but trainers thought otherwise.

Status To Be Determined: I say this is a good sign that he is a “gamer”, though hopefully it’s not a bad sign that his body is “soft” or fragile as some have speculated. But I am sure strength trainer Rusty jones has been hard at it since OTAs, whipping Williams into shape. This could just be Williams’ body reacting to more intense work than he has been used to at this point in his career. The trainers and the staff are wise to rest him and let his body catch up.

WIlliams was asked if he thought he would be back on the field Friday morning for practice he replied “I can’t tell you now,” he said. “Probably take some good medicine, sleep well, figure it out”

The Bears staff says it is no cause for an alarm to panic, though I have to admit with Olin Kreutz out and Williams nursing his back this early in camp – I definitely am a little alarmed.
