(Edited by Russ Loede) The Bears were looking to get back to the basics of running the rock this season, and were going to start it with an offensive line that hopefully was going to play better. That plan may be derailed, with their supposed franchise left tackle Chris Williams now sidelined for 10-12 weeks after undergoing surgery. Chicagosports.com is reporting that the 14th overall pick has a back injury that will keep him out of action until at least November, with the earliest possible date of return pointing towards Week 9 at home against division rival Detroit.
Williams suffered a similar back injury working out at Vanderbilt, though this incident with his back is said to be a new episode, not a rerun. The team was counting heavily on Williams to anchor a shaky line, as he was one of seven offensive tackles taken in the first 21 picks, and one that the team felt would be a difference maker from day one. Now the team is just hoping he can make it on the field and play in 08.
