Bears Down Slumping Rams 27-3
Posted by Eric Cook on November 24th, 2008 filed in Cook's Corner, Game Stories, Main, NewsThe Bears rebounded Sunday afternoon with a strong effort against a down and out St. Louis Rams squad, as they got back on-track indoors inside the Edward Jones Done with a 27-3 victory, thus staying tied atop the NFC North with Minnesota. Kyle Orton was a decent 18 of 29 passes for 139 yards and a 7-yard touchdown pass to Jason McKie. Rookie Matt Forte put in another great effort with 20 rushes for 132 yards and two Touchdowns and added two receptions for 14 yards. The defense was much improved and only allowed 3 points, which is amazing even against back up Trent Green. The Bears defense gave up 219 yards to Green who was 16 for 30, but denied him the end zone and intercepted four of his passes. The Bears defense also added 5 sacks, one of which took Marc Bulger out of the game early. The Rams never really got going, although they showed some promise on special teams where Derek Stanley racked up 195 yards on kick off returns.
The Bears defense took advantage of a banged up Rams offense who were without Running back Stephen Jackson, Tackle Orlando Pace, and Quarterback Marc Bulger who left the game in the first quarter with a concussion.
So the question is, did the battered 6-5 Bears get some things figured out on the defensive side of the ball, or are the Rams just that bad? They will now travel to the Metrodome to prove their legitimacy as a playoff team against the team they share 1st place with, the 6-5 Adrian Peterson-powered division rival Vikings, in what should be an intriguing Sunday Night showdown in the Twin Cities.
