Playoff Hopes Still Alive: Bears Pull Off Another Victory In OT, Comeback To Beat Packers 20-17

The Bears needed a win to stay in the play off hunt, and they somehow got one against a slumping Green Bay Packers team that dominated them for most of the game. The Packers were the team with nothing to play for in the Monday Night matchup of two NFC rivals, but played with fire and determination. The Bears put together a lackluster effort in the first half, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
The Bears gave up 14 points and 226 yards to the Green Bay Offense in the first half, although they did come up with one interception. Aaron Rodgers came out sharp as did the Green Bay Offense, Aaron Rodgers finished 24-36 with 260 yards Two TD’s and One INT
The Bears offense was non-existent in the first half mustering only 43 total yards and running 20 offensive plays and possessing the ball for only 10 minutes and 48 seconds.
The defense stepped up in the second half holding the Packers to 99 yds of offense and giving up only 3 points. The Bears got a break in the third quarter when a punt hit Green Bay’s Jarret Bush and was recovered by the Bears Jason Davis to give the Bears the ball at the Green Bay 27. Chicago scored five plays later on a three yard Kyle Orton pass to Greg Olsen to make it a 14-10 game. Kyle Orton then threw interceptions on back to back possessions, but the Bears defense only gave up a field goal on those two turnovers. Orton finished the game 14-27 with 127 yards One TD and Two INT’s.
After a Robbie Gould kick-off a 32 yard return by Willi Blackmon becomes a 47 yard return because of an unnecessary roughness penalty against the Bears Adrian Peterson took the Ball to the Chicago 35 yard line. Six plays later the Packers move to the Chicago 19 yard line with 25 seconds left on the clock, on comes Mason Crosby to kick what would be the winning 38 yard field goal. The ball is snapped and the Chicago Special teams gets an amazing push and the punt is blocked By Alex Brown. The Bears take a knee and head to over time. The Bears win the coin toss and receive, with two big passes and four short runs the Bears are at the Packers 21 yard line attempting a 38 yard field Goal for the win. The Packers call a time out to Ice Robbie Gould, the kick is up and Good, Bears win and stay alive in the NFC playoff hunt.
Key Performances: Danieal Manning had an outstanding 70 yard kick off return in the first half that set up Chicago’s first score, and finished with 93 total return yards. He also had a tipped pass that was intercepted by Alex Brown in the first half.
Matt Fort/Ron Turner….made the decision to take the ball out of a struggling Kyle Orton’s hands and give the ball to the most consistent player on the Bears offense Matt Forte, he rewards them with an 8 play 51 yard drive that ends in a touchdown for the Bears, the bears didn’t throw once on that possession. This is a formula Ron Turner should right down in his playbook.
The 5-10 Packers head to home to host the win-less Lions, and the Bears head to Houston to face the 7-8 Texans. The Bears need to win to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Packers and the Lions will be playing for Pride.
