Would the Bears Have Interest in Rams WR Torry Holt?

Could the Bears have an interest in signing Rams WR Torry Holt should he get his walking papers in St.Louis? That option was brought up in today’s Chicago Tribune:
I know the Rams would save $8 million on the salary cap if they released wide receiver Torry Holt, the source of much speculation in St. Louis, where the Rams are discussing their options. Holt will turn 33 in June, and the Bears should be wary of signing aging wide receivers after Marty Booker’s second tour of duty. But Holt caught 64 passes for 796 yards in 2008 and could fit as an ideal No. 2 option that defensive backs would have to respect.

I believe that Holt would bring a number 1 option to the bears even with his age. He still has more than adiquate speed, but more importantly he is considered a masterful route runner. All of that aside the fact that this guy is a student of the game and also a phenominal teacher of the game as can be verified but the production and credit given by some mediocre talents like mike furry, who achieved a thousand yards and credited his achievement to Holt and the time spent working with him. If thats not enough his other understudy kevin curtis has exploded when he got his shot in philly only limited by some injuries. This guy likes to work with the young receivers and share his knowledge. The fact remains gentlemen that signing holt or trading for him for a low draft pick would bring a two for one special. He would be a #1 option for orton while hester would develop into the star the bears are counting on. what a way to protect your investment.

I’m in total agreement. Torry is a relatively cheap veteran addition who would still be productive and would greatly affect the bears youthful WR regimes. That would allow for the bears to develop Hester, Earl Bennett, and any other additions from this years draft. Holt is a great route runner and could be the go to guy as a possesion reciever for the bears. Anguan Boldin and a monster goaline fullback would be my first pick but Torry Holt for cheap seems more realistic and wouldn’t be such a drastic move.
