Cutler Choosing Charity and Chemistry Over Commercials

The Daily Herald’s Bob LeGere has a great story about how Jay Cutler is spending this offseason. Cutler caused a bit of a stir when pictures surfaced of him drinking at a Chicago bar this offseason. What is rarely reported are the positive stories.
This offseason, Jay Cutler has gotten his priorities staight. Choosing to work with his charity, The Jay Cutler Foundation, with visiting hospitals to help children recently diagnosed with diabetes.
As many know, Cutler himself has the disease. He is also taking the time to learn the playbook and develop a chemistry with this new teammates. Cutler was a constant presence in every offseason program the Bears had.
It was also rumored that he and Ron Turner would stay late looking over film. What Cutler hasn’t been doing is any commercials. As a Quarterback in the NFL’s second largest market, I’m sure he’s gotten more offers than he can handle. But he has not taken one.
I like this for a couple of reasons. First of all, as much as he’s accomplished in Denver, he still has to take a snap on the field as a Bear to win over some fans.
Doing commercials would make it seem like he’s more interested in making money that producing wins to some. Also, I remember an interview with Tom Brady a couple years back.
He was asked why he doesn’t do a ridiculous amount of commercials like Peyton Manning does. He said that he found it more important to win championships that win endoresments. This impressed me a lot.
Even though I didn’t think doing commercials has anything to do with performance on the field, I do respect holding off on commercials for the good of the team. This way, Cutler can concentrate on getting us to the playoffs instead of getting Nike, McDonalds, or State Farm more sales.

You make some very good points. Jay is being smart and is showing is priorities. He has done nothing yet in Chicago and is not trying to “cash in” before it’s right. I think he is going to have a great future here. Have you guys seen the highlights on the Denver games last year? Cutler is very mobile and smart with a great arm! I don’t expect miracles the first year, but in a couple of years we are going to have a great team every year!

Thanks for the comment, I have watched every highlight from last year. I want to watch entire games sometime when I get NFL Network. He has a lot of skill and I think he is going to be great.
