NT Harrison Shows Up to Camp 14 Pounds Overweight

The Bears have their first big (no pun intended) issue of training camp, as nose tackle Marcus Harrison has shown up WAYYYY overweight. Well – 14 pounds overweight:

The bigger issue is the status of nose tackle Marcus Harrison, a promising talent who is on the non-football injury list while dealing with weight issues. The 6-foot-3-inch Harrison, who failed his physical after checking in Thursday 14 pounds overweight at 323, said he anticipated a fine. A club can fine a player $400 per pound twice each week.

Bears coach Lovie Smith would not reveal any intentions to assess a penalty but did not disguise his feelings about Harrison’s physical condition.

“I’m disappointed Marcus isn’t out there with his teammates right now,” Smith said. “Don’t know exactly how long [he will be out]. This wasn’t a part of the plan. He’ll do his work. As you can see, he’s working hard to get back in shape.”

Harrison performed conditioning drills on a side field at the start of practice. He joined Manning and Charles Tillman (back surgery) as a spectator for the end of the two-hour session.
