Bears sign 13 warm bodies to participate in this weekend’s rookie minicamp

Just to make sure they have enough warm bodies to go 11 vs. 11 at this weekend’s rookie minicamp, the Bears signed 13 rookie free agents following last weekend’s draft. These are the guys that weren’t good enough to get drafted, but actually get to decide for themselves which teams they want to try out for.

If you follow college football, you’ll recognize a few of the names, with Bowling Green WR Freddie Barnes starring as the headliner. He’s the guy who caught 155 balls – last year alone! Oh yeah, he also caught 19 TDs. But considering the Bears’ young depth at receiver, Barnes is probably destined for the practice squad.

In the last 2 years, the only rookie free agent to make the opening day roster was QB Caleb Hanie. So don’t hold your breath waiting for any of these fellas to see the field next year.

Here are the 13 free agents:

WR Vic Hall, Virginia

WR Freddie Barnes, Bowling Green

CB Cornelius Brown, UTEP

OT Levi Horn, Montana

WR Greg Mathews, Michigan

LB Matt Mayberry, Indiana

RB Brandon Minor, Michigan

WR Antonio Robinson, Nicholls State

DT Jimmy Saddler-McQueen. Texas A&M-Kingsville

S Quinten Scott, Northern Iowa

DE Barry Turner, Nebraska

C Tim Walter, Colorado State

DE Lawrence Wilson, Ohio State

Of course, this list does not include guys who will be attending the minicamp on a try-out basis. This extremely unimpressive list is headlined by former Illinois QB Juice Williams.
