Bears ink fourth-round pick Wootton, release Basanez

A day after signing fifth-round draft pick, CB Josh Moore, the Bears inked their fourth rounder, DE Corey Wootton. The Sun-Times reported the deal was for 4 years, $507,000.

That leaves Bears negotiating dynamo Cliff Stein only two more draft picks to sign – safety Major Wright and QB Dan LeFevour.

While Wednesday brought good news for one former Northwestern Wildcat (Wootton) it signaled the end of another’s career as a Bear.

Third-string QB Brett Basanez was released. While this would be a great time to say something nice about Basanez, I’m finding it difficult since the kid never saw the field in a regular season game as a Bear. Now he and I have something in common.
