Bears Envision Rookie Gabe Carimi Starting At Right Tackle Immediately

The Bears have big plans for rookie Gabe Carimi as the Chicago Tribune reports they will likely insert the first-round pick as their starter at right tackle. That would take the pressure off Carimi from needing to protect the left (blind side) in front of Jay Cutler and allow him to do what he did best at Wisconsin: Dominate smaller defensive ends while blocking for the running game.

Carimi has the frame to do it at 6-7, 315 pounds. The Bears’ rushing attack was already formidable last season, featuring Matt Forte who averaged a career-best 4.5 yards per carry. Carimi’s presence should help balance Mike Martz’s high-flying passing game with a stronger power running game.
