Bears Want to Ink Matt Forte Long Term

Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Bears will try to lock up running back Matt Forte with a long-term contract extension once the lockout ends. The Bears tried to sign Forte to an extension prior to the lockout and, even if they don’t sign him this summer, they still will have time to work something out, as his contract does not expire until after the 2011 season.

The extension is a no-brainer considering only Chris Johnson, Adrian Peterson, Maurice Jones-Drew, and Steven Jackson have more yards from scrimmage since Forte entered the league three years ago. There could be some bad vibes between Forte and the Bears if he enters another season being paid less than the over-the-hill Chester Taylor.
