Bears With Interest in P Steve Weatherford

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Bears are expected to pursue free agent punter Steve Weatherford this summer once the new CBA is signed.

The Bears will let 37-year-old Brad Maynard walk after a 29th place finish in net average last season. Illinois alumnus Weatheford finished a more respectable 15th in net average while also tying an NFL record with 42 punts inside the 20-yard line. The Jets opted not to tender Weatherford, balking at the $1.2 million price tag.

Bears should be after Carl Nicks to solidify line. He would be ideal next to young stud Carimi. Both would solidify that side of line for years. Malcolm Floyd would be great fit for a big reciever and honestly the only option I really like. Plax could be good but i just dont like him. I really like Barret Ruud (LB)from Tampa. This kid hits hard and would be improvement over often injured Pisa and better than Roach. Please dont go after Jenkins. I think combo of Melton, Peae, and Adams are legit enough at DT and a lot less pricey. I think those three moves would be perfect with Nicks being the top priority. Unless ofcourse bears wanna go after nnamdi which would be sick. He and peanut would dominate and young gun safeties Major and Conte would be free to make plays. Hopefully we can deal in the next few weeks

Carl Nicks: Best interior lineman in the NFL. I would be thrilled to acquire him.

Malcom Flyod: I’ve been high on him for awhile. Excellent addition as a big-play receiver. We need some size.

Plaxico Burress: I would get him in a hurry. He’s going to come back with a vengeance. Big red zone target.

James Jones: Most talented FA WR out there. He’s ready to become a #1.

Cullen Jenkins: Easily would put our DL over the top. I would be ecstatic to sign him.

Sidney Rice: Another deep-ball threat Jay would like to have.

Barrett Ruud: Nice pick-up, but greater needs elsewhere.

    Nnamdi: Only one could dream!
