Bears Highly Interested In Jaguars LB?

Speed Factor At Strongside Linebacker

While there’s one Jaguar who (Mike Sims-Walker) wants to be on the team’s radar, there’s another Jaguar who’s actually on the team’s radar.

With LB Nick Roach an unrestricted free agent, the Bears are seeking options at the strong side position, to accompany Urlacher and Briggs.

According to a source, the Bears already have reached out to Justin Durant from Jacksonville.  The team has shown interest for quite some time, according to multiple sources.  The Bears are not alone in the running for Durant, as seven teams, including three from the NFC North, have their eyes and sights set on the product from Hampton.

The inking of the Jags ‘backer would be an ideal signing for the Bears, who have been looking for more consistency from the strong side spot.

The team’s preferred third starting linebacker, Pisa Tinoisamoa, a free agent along with Roach, has been plagued by the injury bug during his stay in the Windy City.  The former Ram is coming off of a major knee surgery, so his future is in doubt.

Expect the club to keep Roach, who has value as a special teamer, and let Pisa walk because of his uncertainty due to health.

For Durant, there might be a catch to why he’s available.   The 6-foot-1-inch, 240-pound linebacker missed some time last season with ankle and groin injuries, although he’d been an effective producer for the Jaguars in four seasons.

“I felt like when I was in there that I was important to the defense, and I was contributing a lot,” Durant told the Florida Times-Union. “I had a couple injuries, a couple setbacks. They were nagging all year.”

If Durant joins Rod Marinelli’s crew, he will be an important piece that will be counted on to stay healthy and contribute as a free-ranging linebacker.
