Forte Patiently Waiting New Deal; Kreutz Pondering Retirement?

Fresh Extension Nearing?

Charles Tillman, Lance Briggs, Brian Urlacher, Devin Hester, Jay Cutler.

Bears general manager Jerry Angelo has a history of handling and rewarding his standout players in the appropriate manner, at the appropriate time.

Next in line for a raise: versatile running back Matt Forte

Forte reported to Bears camp on-time, avoiding a holdout, because Angelo said to him: “A deal will get done, he said I’m a priority of his.”

While there hasn’t been any progress to note of, the former member of the Green Wave should be patient:

“It’s a negotiation, you got to find that common ground,” the Bears GM said on Sunday. “That part of it will be a challenge.”

If Forte revisits the past, he will know his turn to get rewarded will come soon rather than later.

Kretuz calling it quits: After the Bears signed Spencer, signaling the end of Olin’s run in the Windy City, the center said he’s “just not sure if he wants to play for anyone else.”  Going out as only a Bear.

Iwuh returns: One of the Bears’ best performers on special teams, Brian Iwuh, will be back with the team.  The club announced a one-year deal for the Colorado product.  Iwuh, the former Jaguar, was tied for second on the squad with 18 stops on special teams last season.

Forte deserves a well paying deal. His work on the ground and in the air has helped the Bears immensely.

Forte deserves deal he is legit! This Kruetz thing bugging me cuz he was awesome but I actually have to support Angelo on this one. 4 mil sounded like a decent offer for ancient Kruetz and we would have to find center anyhow. Misplaced anger on this one Kruetz and agent have some fault in this too. Now he gonna retire and have no money instead of 4mil? I also like that we brought in dude with some more size and some experience instead of moving Garza over or bringing Edwin in both with little center exp and then less flip floppin line spots. I love the guy but Kruetz was starting to get pushed around out there. This may be blessing in disguise especially for run game as long as locker room stays in order. A deal to Forte would help bring some trust back between players and the suits. Time for Cutler to step up leadership role and maybe learn to make some of those calls for the line to protect his own ass.

I’ve been a fan of Spencer since he was drafted out of Ole Miss in ’05. Solid replacement for Kreutz. Once Forte gets his deal, which he will soon, it will boost the players’ morale. Where do you rank Forte? I believe he’s the sixth-best back in the NFL. Regardless, he’s ideal for Martz’s system. I knew he was going to be something special when he had that TD run at Indy first game as a pro.
