Bulked Up To 295 Pounds
Who needs Anthony Hargrove when you have Henry Melton.
The team’s 2009 fourth-round draft pick is a physical specimen, and ex-Bear defensive tackle Tommie Harris knows all about the former college running back’s explosiveness:
“Henry Melton is one of the most explosive guys I’ve ever seen,” said Harris, who just signed with the Colts. “When you look at John Randle, they have similarities. To have ability to be so fast and so quick as a defensive lineman, the sky’s the limit for Henry Melton.”
The sky’s the limit for the Texas product, who added 20 pounds in June and observed no decline in speed or quickness.
Melton played in all 16 contests last season and tied for second on the club with nine quarterback hurries.
Bears defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli knows about his lineman’s impressive speed and athleticism, too:
“He’s got great, great speed, athleticism,” said Marinelli, who’s forte is teaching defensive linemen. “He’s a tough kid.”
Melton is exactly what the Bears need on the interior of the front four: a tough, pass-rusher with great speed and athleticism – similar to a healthy Tommie Harris in his prime.
