Matt Forte Still Without Contract Extension

Should Matt Forte play into tomorrow’s preseason opener?

Matt Forte decided not to hold out this training camp in regards to a better contract. Forte did the right thing by being optimistic and trusting the Bears Front Office to get a deal done during camp. Well, enough time has passed and the Bears first string running back still hasn’t received an updated contract. Forte is actually deserving of a bulkier deal and not the league minimum he currently gets.

This poses the question, should Forte even play in tomorrow’s exhibition match against the Bills? My response is no for two reasons in particular. One, it is foolish and ridiculous that GM Jerry Angelo and the Bears haven’t figured out a deal already. It is time for Forte to send a message by sitting out. Nothing against his team, just an act to show he needs a deal done now.

Reason number two – the field conditions. Preseason injuries should always be avoided and primarily are by limited play. But with grass fiasco going on at Solider Field, why even risk an injury due to the playing surface? Bears fans know how slippery the grass can get.

These complications appear to not be affecting Lovie Smith’s mind. “I expect all the guys to be ready to play if we tell them,” Bears coach Lovie Smith said. “We’ll make those decisions a little bit later. But you just look at what Matt is doing. You love everything he’s done. And why wouldn’t he be ready to go?”

Well, Lovie in life people have principles and Matt Forte needs to uphold his.
