Bears Stomped By Big Blue; 41-13

The Good: Jay Cutler was not trampled over by Giant defenders.  New York’s pass rush was contained by the “usual five suspects.”  Sorry, Gabe Carimi.  Screen passes were executed to perfection.  Back-to-back Hester and Forte big gains via the air.  Johnny Knox continued to show promise on kick returns.  Also, Knox came back into the game late to receive extra quality reps at receiver.  Watching Marion Barber run after the catch and offer explosiveness during each carry.  Julius Peppers and Matt Toeaina looked quick off the ball.  Defense forced two three & outs to start the game.  D.J. Moore provided an early third-down stop on Mario Manningham in space.  Both lines look ready for the regular season.  Dane Sanzenbacher with four catches (34 yards) on seven targets.  Corey Graham solid at corner.  No major injuries for the Bears.

The Bad: 41-13.  Goal-line offense was dismal.  Couldn’t watch.  Run defense broke down; tackling was shoddy on Brandon Jacobs.  Major Wright’s huge whiff.  All the inexcusable gaffes in the special teams department.  Caleb Hanie throwing it right to Mark Herzlich on fourth down going for Sanzenbacher.  I’m guessing he forget the linebacker was there.  Giving up a rare 97-yard touchdown run to a seventh round rookie, who almost inadvertently was tripped up for a loss in the backfield on the play.  Second and third-team defensive units let David Carr actually look like a No. 1 overall pick.  Allowing a fourth-down conversion (21-yard gain) on 4th & 4 at your own 32-yard line – it set up the first points (field goal) of the game.  Roy Williams dropping what would’ve been an impressive third-down conversion on the first series.  No running room for Matt Forte.  Near-miss between Cutler and Hester (lost balance) on 2nd & goal quick out route pattern at the Giants’ 5-yard line.

Next: At Tennessee to face the Titans on Saturday August 27, 7 pm CT.
