Kahlil Bell to back up Forte in Week 1

Kahlil Bell

Marion Barber will sit out Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons, nursing his calf muscle injury. Barber was a pick up late this summer and caused a bit of spark in the running back battle which ultimately led to last year’s back up Chester Taylor being released from the team. Barber is probably the better runner and more fit to the Bears’ style of play. His ability to just flat out run defenders over and shed tackles so easily is what Chicago football is all about.

However, without Barber in Week 1 the Bears now look to third string running back Kahlil Bell. Bell came into the scene last year when he broke off for a beautiful touchdown run. Other than that, Bell hasn’t seen much playing time during the regular season. With Matt Forte getting the load of carries this year, it is vital to have a running back spell him and let him get the needed rest. Kahlil Bell will be that man in Week 1.

Bell is looking forward to stepping up and getting some time on the gridiron. “I’ve been ready since I got here,” Bell said. “Whenever they put me on the field, I’m going to be ready no matter what happens..I’ve done everything possible to prepare myself.”
