Bears Request Permission To Interview Eric DeCosta

Bears have requested permission to interview Ravens Director of Player Personnel Eric DeCosta, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.

The Bears fired longtime general manager Jerry Angelo earlier this week.

There is a bit of a bad blood between the Ravens and Bears organizations, with the Bears failing to notify the league of a trade during the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Baltimore, believing a trade involving a swap of first round picks and them receiving a fourth round pick from the Bears was going through, did not make their draft choice in their allotted time, allowing the Kansas City Chiefs to jump ahead of them to make their selection (Pittsburgh wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin).

The Ravens made their pick (cornerback Jimmy Smith) and the Bears selected offensive tackle Gabe Carimi. Baltimore protested to the league, but did not receive compensation for what Angelo described was “a glitch” on their end.

DeCosta is also a candidate for general manager vacancies with the St. Louis Rams and Indianapolis Colts.
