Jay Cutler has been regarded as an above average to elite quarterback throughout his career. He has a big arm and can move an offense with ease when he is given adequate time to throw the ball. While he only has one career playoff victory, he is still essential to the Bears being a successful team.
He Is By Far The Best Quarterback On The Team
When Cutler was injured last season, the Bears had seven wins and were looking to clinch a spot in the playoffs. After Cutler was injured, Caleb Hanie led the Bears to one win and the Bears finished 8-8. This season, Jason Campell had to fill in for Cutler against the 49ers and the Bears were finished before halftime. Without Cutler, the Bears simply don’t have a fiery leader who has poise under pressure and the ability to effectively run the offense.
Only He Can Play Behind That Atrocious Offensive Line
Cutler is the most mobile quarterback on the roster. This helps when playing behind an offensive line that is starting one of the worst left tackles in the league in J’Marcus Webb. Without his mobility, there would be no way that the Bears would have any semblance of a passing attack. While many have questioned his toughness, Cutler has survived and thrived in conditions that would mentally cripple other quarterbacks. For a good example of an elite quarterback who has played worse this season due to bad line play, just look at Phillip Rivers in San Diego.
He Holds Everyone Accountable
It is important that everyone on the team be accountable for their actions. A good quarterback makes sure that everyone on the offense is doing their job correctly. While some people may not like his leadership style, Cutler is going to get in your face if you do something wrong. That creates a culture on offense that spreads to the entire team. You don’t want to be the guy who has to deal with the wrath of an upset quarterback who just lost a game because you messed up.
The Chicago Bears are simply a better football team with Jay Cutler in the lineup. While some will question his ability, there is no question that the team wins more games when he plays. Just because he may not be a great fantasy football option doesn’t mean that he can’t be considered a great quarterback in this league. The Bears will only go as far as Cutler can take them.

Actually, Hanie couldn’t win one game if memory serves me. That one win came from, none other than, Josh McClown.
Great article. Yes, it is nice to have a QB that never gives up.
Ha. You’re definitely right. Thanks for that!

I agree with your comments here Ryan. I never understood the critics of Cutler, calling him immature or what have you. The man can flat out throw. But besides that, he’s got an edge. He leads the offense and the Bears are always in the game when he’s calling plays. Every team needs a guy like Cutler who has no fear.
Awesome, thanks for reading and the comments! I feel Cutler played great in last Sundays game (vs DET) – just need to physically be able to catch a ball.. ie Hester and Marshall.
And please please please… Protect the man!!
No kidding, right?!
