In a move that marks the end of an era with the Bears, GM Phil Emery and the Bears have announced that they are done trying to work out a deal with linebacker Brian Urlacher.
“We were unable to reach an agreement with Brian and both sides have decided to move forward,” Emery said in a statement.
“Brian has been an elite player in our league for over a decade. He showed great leadership and helped develop a winning culture over his time with the Bears. We appreciate all he has given our team, on and off the field. Brian will always be welcome as a member of the Bears.”
Urlacher will stay on the market as an unsigned free agent, and one can only assume will start talking to other teams about joining another roster after 12 seasons with the Bears.
Bears coach Marc Trestman said earlier on Wednesday that he felt there was a place for Urlacher on the Bears in 2013, but now that dream appears over.
