Four Turnovers Doom Bears in 31-24 Loss To Panthers

Chicago Bears v Carolina Panthers

The Bears held a 14-point edge at one point Sunday, but were unable to close and then fell victim to the turnover bug in a sick 31-24 loss to the Panthers.

Carolina won with a pair of big TD passes from Cam Newton to Greg Olsen.

Jay Cutler looked good early, but threw two interceptions, both of which were bad.

The first pick was thrown in double-coverage, while the other pick was a high pass in which Cutler was trying to go to Santonio Holmes.

Add in a huge Matt Forte fumble inside the Bears 25 in a tie game with less than five minutes to go, and it spelled doom for the Bears.

With the game tied at 24, Antoine Cason stripped Forte of the ball and the Panthers’ Kawaan Short recovered at Chicago’s 23. Six plays later, Newton found Olsen on a slant route for a 6-yard touchdown for the go-ahead score with 2:18 left.

The Panthers sealed the win when Short sacked Jay Cutler and Charles Johnson recovered.

Newton was 19 of 35 for 255 yards with two touchdown passes and one interception. Olsen had six catches for 72 yards.

Cutler was 28 of 36 for 289 yards with two TDs, but turned the ball over three times for the Bears, who drop to 2-3 on the year.

Overall it is a totally deflating loss which should have some huge ramifications for a staff that just can’t seem to get it right.
