Maybin Has a Desire to Play for Marinelli and the Bears

According to multiple sources, the team has had discussions about Aaron Maybin, who was waived by the Bills on Monday. All indications are the 11th pick of the 2009 draft wants to play for defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli and the Bears.

The Bears and 30 other teams have until 3 p.m. Tuesday to consider placing a claim for Maybin. His contract for the next three years is affordable. He’s owed $757,500 this season and $3.36 million through 2013. The question is whether anyone believes he’ll produce if he’s moved to defensive end from outside linebacker, where he lacked instincts.

The Bears could use another body at defensive end. Promising second-year player Corey Wootton suffered meniscus damage in his right knee Saturday. He is scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery Tuesday and is expected to be out four weeks.

Im all for it cuz cheap and worth risk but isn’t Maybin undersized by a pretty decent amount for DE and he basically same player as Vernon with linebacker and DE reps with no production? Tank Johnson just got cut. Any chance we snag him back at DT? Melton still has speed to alternate DT and outside if needed. Plus Wooton not cashed for the season he should be back relatively early.

Not a chance on “Terry” Johnson.

Wootton a possibility for Week 1 against Atlanta.

Maybin: more finesse, quickness than “muscles” Gholston. Undersized but could just use a change of scenery. Why not? We need depth at DE. Wants to play us; that’s a plus.

Speaking of no production – you are right on the money. No sacks in two seasons on Sundays.

Despite being an explosive athlete, Melton is staying at DT because he bulked up to 292. Pass-rushing skills of a DE, but he will stay inside to give us pressure along with Okoye and Paea (if he develops quickly).

Israel and Melton are finally in their right positions.

(bears O-line) 160 yds on the ground from back ups RB’s is pretty legit. 4 sacks for starting unit in limited work and 9 in total is not legit but well see what happens against NY monday night. I kinda agree we missed any studs in FA and have to let unit gel at this point.
